1. DON&#;T BE TEMPTED BY COST
Don&#;t be tempted by the lowest bid or the highest bid. You need to make sure you know what you are getting. Bids could range from $6,000 to $20,000 for a new AC system.

2.  DON&#;T BUY &#;NO NAME&#; SYSTEM
Do not be tempted to buy a no name AC system, just because it has a 10 year warranty. If the compressor goes out, it could still cost you over a $1,000 to replace it.

3.  REPLACE WHOLE SYSTEM
If you are replacing an existing air conditioner, you must replace the whole system, including the inside coil and furnace, to achieve the rated efficiency.

4.  KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING
Make sure the HVAC contractor provides you the system type (straight cool or heat pump), AC system efficiency rating (ask for a copy of the AHRI Certification), system size (tons), rebates and warranties (make sure the labor warranty covers replacing parts).

5.  GET AHRI CERTIFICATION
After you get the HVAC contractor&#;s bid, ask for copy of the AHRI Certification. If the contractor asks you what is an AHRI Certification, don&#;t use that contractor.

6.  REVIEW AHRI CERTIFICATION
You should review the AHRI Certification that the HVAC contractor provided. The certification will show you:

The company is the world’s best air cooled condensing units manufacturer supplier. We are your one-stop shop for all needs. Our staff are highly-specialized and will help you find the product you need.

  • Efficiency of the System
  • Equipment Model Numbers
  • System Size (Tons or BTUs)
  • System Type (straight cool, heat pump)

Sometimes a contractor will say an AC system is an 18 SEER2 system (because it is in the Manufacturer&#;s 18 SEER2 line), when it is actually rated by AHRI at 16 SEER2. You should not use a contractor who tried to mislead you.

7.  ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION ANALYSIS
Ask your HVAC contractor to provide an electricity consumption analysis of the options he gave you pricing for. If the contractor cannot provide it in writing and just says you&#;ll save X%, don&#;t use that contractor. See AC SEER Ratings for more on AC Electricity Consumption Analysis.

8.  BUY A HIGH-EFFICIENCY UNIT
New air conditioners are required by federal law to have a SEER2 of 13.8 or higher. Even though it will cost more, it&#;s usually worth it to buy a new AC unit that is at least 16 SEER2 because over time that initial investment will be paid back with energy savings. See AC SEER Ratings for AC Electricity Consumption Analysis.

10 Questions To Ask When Shopping For A New AC System

Your air conditioning unit is a major investment and, as such, the decision
of what system to buy shouldn&#;t be taken lightly. Del-Air has compiled
a list of 10 questions to ask when it is time to pick the perfect
air conditioning for your home&#;s needs. If you have additional questions or concerns,
don&#;t hesitate to contact our team for assistance.

  • What is the estimated size of the unit needed to cool my home? It&#;s
not sufficient to match the size of your current system; savvy technicians
consider add-ons, insulation R-values, window and door types, and other
factors that can affect your heating and cooling needs.
  • Is it necessary to change the ductwork? The answer is maybe. Leaks in your
ducts could force you to run your air conditioner more frequently, increasing
    your energy costs.
  • What new technology can be used for this installation? Before purchasing
a new system, ask your technician about the latest cooling products and
technology on the market. You might want to consider a ductless system
or accessories like remote-operated and programmable thermostats.
  • How energy efficient is this new unit? Energy-friendly systems might cost
more now, but they will likely save you money on monthly utility bills
    for years to come.
  • What about your company? Don&#;t trust your AC installation to just
any AC provider. A good company is insured, licensed, and bonded to protect
    your home and its technicians.
  • What are the differences between the brands? Not all AC units are created
equal. At Del-Air, we proudly work with
top notch suppliers like Carrier, Trane, and Lennox, and Goodman.
  • Are there any tax benefits associated with a new AC unit? Don&#;t spend
more money on a new AC unit than you have to. At Del-Air, we strive to
help clients take advantage of all possible tax cuts.
  • Are there any warranties that come with the new AC unit? Find out if you
qualify for a warranty from either the manufacturer or the unit installer.
Note: most manufacturers void warranties for systems not installed by
    licensed AC technicians.
  • How long does the installation take? You don&#;t want to be inconvenienced
for days or even weeks while your family is left in the heat. Get a price
in ten minutes and installation the next day.
  • Is there financing available? It&#;s no secret that a new AC represents
a significant investment. Find out if you qualify for special financing
to avoid breaking your budget. Del-Air offers a variety of financing options
to better meet our customer&#;s needs
