What Is Ferro Silicon?

Ferro silicon is a gray color ferroalloy product which is made of iron and silicon. Different content of Si, Fe, Al, etc in Ferro silicon, different grade of ferro silicon, the most widely used is 75% ferro silicon and 72% ferro silicon . Production Process Of Ferro Silicon

The raw materials of ferro silicon are coke, steel scrap, silica. Smelted in an electric furnace. In the process of steelmaking, silicon reacts with oxidation to produce SiO2, so ferro silicon can be used as a deoxidizer. Meanwhile when SiO2 is formed, a large amount of heat is released, it is beneficial to increase the temperature of the molten steel. By harnessing the high heat generated by graphite electrodes, we melt silica, coke, and scrap steel. Afterward, the molten ferro silicon is poured into dedicated molds to be shaped and processed into different grades of ferro silicon.

Steel mills require an oxygen charge in the furnace during the initial stages of steelmaking.
