Why Do We Call It 358 Mesh?

Gryffin have been designing fence systems with 358 mesh for many years now and we have heard it called by a multitude of generic names; Secure-Mesh, Anti-Climb Mesh, Belgian Wire and 358 Mesh to name just a few.  Additionally there are the brand names for 358 mesh - our Securifor 358, Gryffin 358, Fortis 358 and all of our oppositions brand names for their product.  With all these different names floating around, one could be excused for wondering what do the numbers 358 actually mean?  Good Question -  The numbers 358 refer to the aperture and gauge of the wire in the old Imperial measurement.
