Approvals and Permits

We&#;ll make sure that your warehouse mezzanine adheres to applicable building codes, industry standards, local seismic requirements, and your exact specifications. Prior to installation, we will inspect and evaluate your facility&#;s structure, slab, and soil, to ensure it can withstand the additional forces. Our designs are certified and stamped by a structural engineer.

After the installation, we&#;ll thoroughly inspect the mezzanine for safety and durability.

Pricing

A large warehouse mezzanine can cost $14-$15 per sq. ft., and up to $20 for smaller projects. Mezzanines built over existing shelving cost less because we&#;ll use existing structure for support.

Benefits of a Warehouse Mezzanine System

We&#;ll help you utilize the unused vertical space in your facility by designing and installing a custom warehouse mezzanine system.

Maximize Available Vertical Space

If your facility has a ceiling greater than 14 feet high, you might be a perfect candidate for a mezzanine system.

Installed above your existing machinery, storage, or racks, this system will give you an additional level where you can add offices, equipment, conveyers, or storage. With a warehouse mezzanine system, you can add 40% to 50% more usable space, at a fraction of the cost of expanding or relocating.

Partner with J&J Material Handling and gain this flexible space at a fraction of the cost of new construction and without the hassle of moving to a new location.

Gain Flexibility

What would you do with additional space? Here&#;s how some of our clients take advantage of this flexible solution:

  • Double order-picking capabilities
  • Add in-plant office space
  • Machine guard to protect both your employees and equipment
  • Equipment support and storage
  • Elevated work platform
  • Locations for overseeing operations

Custom Warehouse Mezzanine Design

Before we design and install a mezzanine system, our team will determine your facility&#;s needs and capabilities in supporting the system. We will meet with you, learning more about your operation and your desires and needs. Our engineer will evaluate your current setup, along with the thickness and quality of the concrete slab floor. We will also discuss potential placement of columns, supports, and shelving, so we can minimize the modifications to your current arrangement.

Fully-Customizable Options

When designing your warehouse mezzanine solution, we can use several decking solutions to meet your budget and your planned usage.

We typically use corrugated steel roof deck as the supporting underlayment, then add a floor surface that&#;s right for your operation. These flooring options include:

  • Resin flooring (we use resin most often because it&#;s durable and easy to roll hand trucks over)
  • High-density wood decking
  • Plywood decking
  • Concrete floor
  • Diamond-plated steel decking
  • Bar grating

To equip your new mezzanine, our team can include a variety of features to meet your specific needs:

  • Safety gate
  • Guard rail
  • Staircases and landings
  • High speed conveyors
  • Storage units
  • Automated storage units
  • Pallet racks
  • Picking modules
  • Lifts
  • Ceiling tiles
  • Electric and lighting
  • Chutes
  • Hoists
  • Gates
  • Ladders
  • Wire security partitions
  • Fire-retardant materials
  • In-plant office
  • Variety of color options to match your corporate brand or existing shelving

How Much Does It Cost to Build a Mezzanine Level?

Mezzanine levels are highly utility driven installations. For that reason, it&#;s not uncommon that we get savvy business owners and procurement specialists asking us about the factors that influence cost. In this article, we&#;re going to take a look at the sorts of variables you can look to when making a cost/benefit analysis that accompanies an investment in a mezzanine floor.

Assessing the Cost of a Mezzanine Level by Span

Size and scale are the first factors to consider. And when your needs are more routine this will actually be the fastest and most accurate way of achieving a ballpark figure.

Want more information on drive in racks? Feel free to contact us.

As a rough guide, the cost by span of building a mezzanine level will be:

      • Spans of 0 to 60m2 = $550/m2 (estimated)

      • Spans of 60 to 150m2 = $450/m2 (estimated)

      • Spans of 150 to 250m2 = $380/m2 (estimated)

      • Spans of 250 to 350m2 = $370/m2 (estimated)

You&#;ll see that there&#;s a trend. The first 60m2 cost significantly more per square meter than the larger installations. And once you&#;re into the 250m2 to 350m2 territory, you begin to approach a consistent cost per square meter. For business operating at scale, an observation like this can inform nuanced calculations about the opportunities that additional space will create.

Considerations Surrounding the Load Bearing Capacity of Your Mezzanine Level

Of variations relating to the actual mezzanine structures themselves &#; load bearing might be the most important. The weight that a mezzanine floor is designed to bear will have a considerable effect on the cost of the installation. Consider that the needs of logistics companies dealing in the port and storage of FMCG products will have needs that differ greatly from organisations that require their mezzanine floors to support machinery.

Typically, a mezzanine floor will be rated to carry up to 300kg per square meter &#; which will be plenty for a variety of purposes. A direct consultation with one of our specialists will help you understand where you can both ensure broad and safe utility in your mezzanine flooring &#; without paying for a load bearing capacity you won&#;t be using.

Building Mezzanine Levels with Specialised Requirements

Specialised requirements are where the cost/benefit analysis tends to require some deeper consideration. Here, we&#;re talking about the utility of installations such as mezzanine clean rooms for companies in the pharmaceutical industry.

Solutions like these come with an investment but open up revenue generating possibilities and even reduce your businesses exposure to sunk costs. For example, when it comes time to move on from a leased site, with any of the installations attached to your mezzanine floor, you&#;ll simply be able to pick everything up and take it with you.
